Simple Subway NYC shows New York City's subway stations on a real map of the city, with each line drawn in its familiar color from station to station. It has two screens: Map and Find.
Drag to move the map and pinch to zoom in and out, just like Apple Maps. Station names appear as you zoom in.
Tap a station's badge. A card at the bottom of the screen shows the station's full name and every train that stops there. For big transfer stations, like Times Sq–42 St, the card covers the whole station.
Tap the ✕ on the card, or tap an empty part of the map.
Each line connects a train's stations in order, in that train's color. The lines show where trains run. They are not live service information.
Open Find and type part of the station's name, such as "Union" or "14 St". Tap a station in the list and the app switches to the map, centered on that station, with its card showing.
Choose Nearest to list stations by distance from where you are. This needs location permission. A–Z lists every station alphabetically.
Only when you tap the location button on the map or choose Nearest in Find. It never asks when the app opens.
Tap it to center the map on your position and follow you as you move. Tap it again, or move the map yourself, to stop following. Your blue dot stays on the map either way.
No. Everything except your blue dot and the Nearest list works without it.
Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Simple Subway NYC and choose While Using the App or Never.
Your location is never stored or shared. See our Privacy Policy.
The street map comes from Apple Maps and needs an internet connection to load new areas. Underground without signal, areas you haven't viewed yet may not appear until you're connected again.
Check that location is allowed for Simple Subway NYC in Settings (see above) and that Location Services is on. Indoors or underground, your iPhone may take longer to find you, or may not be able to.
Your iPhone is still looking for a location fix. Try moving near a window or outdoors. The list stays in A–Z order until a location arrives.
Try a shorter part of the name. Stations use the MTA's abbreviations, so search for "St" or "Av" rather than "Street" or "Avenue".
No. Simple Subway NYC shows where stations are and which trains serve them. For live arrivals and service changes, check the MTA.
