Last Updated: November 2026 (version 1.1)
🔒 The short version: Browsing Simple Subway NYC needs no account and sends us nothing about you. If you choose to post photos, you sign in with Apple and pick a display name and emoji. Your photos are public under the subway station nearest to where you took them; the exact spot stays private. No ads, no analytics, no tracking.
Map, Find and the Photos gallery work without an account. Browsing doesn't send us any personal information.
To add photos you sign in with Apple. We don't ask Apple for your name or email address; Apple gives us only a unique identifier for your account. You then choose a display name and an emoji, or choose to post anonymously. When you post, we store:
Posted photos, their station, date and credit are public to everyone using the app. Each photo record also carries an internal contributor identifier (not your name or Apple ID), used to know which photos are yours and for moderation. It isn't shown in the app, but it is part of the public photo record, so photos posted anonymously can be linked to other photos from the same account by someone examining the data.
Location is optional. If you allow it, it is used on your phone to show your position on the map and to sort stations by distance in Find; for those uses it is never saved or sent to us. When you take a photo in the app, your location at that moment is used to choose the nearest station and is stored privately with the photo, as described above. For a photo chosen from your library, the app uses the location saved in that photo, if any.
You can change location access at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Simple Subway NYC.
The camera is used only when you choose to take a photo for the gallery. Photos you pick from your library are chosen through Apple's photo picker; the app sees only the photos you select.
Anyone can report a photo. A report stores the photo, the reason, and an identifier for the reporter (an anonymous one if you aren't signed in). Blocking a contributor is kept only on your phone and isn't sent to us.
Photos and account information are stored with Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore and Cloud Storage), which processes this data for us. We don't use Firebase Analytics, advertising, or any tracking. The street map is provided by Apple Maps, covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.
You can delete any of your photos from the photo viewer. Delete Account (Photos → your account) deletes all of your photos and their private locations, your display name and emoji, and revokes Simple Subway NYC's Sign in with Apple access.
Our apps share one sign-in system, so a basic sign-in record (the identifier from Apple and sign-in dates, with no name or email from this app) may remain after Delete Account, in case you use our other apps. To have it removed as well, email privacy@yonyc.app and we will delete it. We keep reports and moderation decisions (such as a ban) where needed to prevent abuse.
Contributors agree to the community rules before posting: only your own photos, and no nudity, violence, hate, harassment, or other people's private information. We review reported photos, remove objectionable content, and ban contributors who break the rules. Concerns: support@yonyc.app.
If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone's settings, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports. This is controlled by you, in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements, and is handled by Apple.
Simple Subway NYC is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
If we update this policy, we'll post the new version here with an updated date.
